Privacy Policy

WordAcuity is a word-board training app made by Undercurve, LLC (“Undercurve”, “we”, “us”), which is responsible for the data described here. We built WordAcuity to need as little of your personal information as possible: you can play without an account or email sign-up, signing in is entirely optional, and there is no advertising. This page explains exactly what the app does collect and why.
What we collect
- An anonymous player ID. The app signs you in anonymously (via Firebase Authentication). This random identifier links your practice history and Daily standings to your device. It is not your name, email address, or phone number.
- Optional sign-in (Sign in with Apple or Google). If you choose to sign in — to keep your progress and Pro subscription in sync across your devices and on wordacuity.com — your sign-in is attached to your existing anonymous player ID. Firebase Authentication then stores the identifier and the basic profile the provider shares with it: for Google, your email address, name and profile photo link; for Apple, an Apple user identifier (and an email address, which may be an Apple private relay address, only if Apple provides one). We use this to sign you in and, rarely, to contact you about your account — for example a billing issue, or a material change to this policy or our terms. It is never shown to other players — your public name stays your generated display name — and we never send marketing email or newsletters or share your email address.
- A generated display name. Your public name (for example, “clever-otter”) is picked from a word generator, never typed by you, and no other player can hold the same one. It is shown on Daily standings, on challenges, and to the other players in Arena rooms, and is stored with your Arena match results.
- Gameplay data. Boards you play, words you find, scores, timing, and the skill metrics computed from them (such as your Acuity rating), plus your Coach lesson progress, drill settings and day streak. This is the product — it powers your Lab history, Coach recommendations, and Daily standings, and (if you sign in) lets another device restore them.
- Usage analytics and error reports. First-party events about how the app is used, tagged with a random installation ID the app generates (it identifies this install of the app, not you or your device hardware), basic technical details (app version, device OS, language and region settings such as time zone and App Store country), how you found WordAcuity (such as a shared link, or an Apple Ads campaign reported through Apple's privacy-preserving AdServices attribution), and error reports if the app hits a bug. These go only to our own servers — we do not use third-party analytics or advertising SDKs.
- Purchase status. If you subscribe to WordAcuity Pro, the purchase is processed entirely by Apple. We receive subscription status (active, expired, product) from Apple via RevenueCat, our billing processor, keyed to your player ID. If you sign in, that status also unlocks Pro when you use WordAcuity on the web. We never see your payment details.
All of the above is tied to your player ID, so we treat it as linked to you — and, if you sign in, to your account. None of it is used for advertising or tracking.
What we don't collect
No contacts, photos, location, microphone, camera, or advertising identifiers, and no real name or email address unless you choose to sign in (see above). We do not track you across other apps or websites, and we do not sell or share your data with data brokers or advertisers. Ever.
Where your data lives
Durable history and analytics are stored on our servers on Google Cloud in the United States. Sign-in details for optional accounts are held by Google Firebase Authentication. Google and Apple handle the sign-in itself under their own privacy policies. Live multiplayer (Arena) state — room presence, your display name, the board and found words — is held by Google Firebase. Most gameplay also works fully offline, stored only on your device.
Our servers, like any web service, process your IP address when the app connects to them. We use it only to deliver the service, keep it secure, and limit abuse (rate limiting); it appears in our server logs and is not used to identify or profile you.
The service providers named on this page — Google (Cloud and Firebase), RevenueCat and Apple — process data on our behalf under their contractual terms, which require them to protect it at least to the standard described here.
How long we keep it
Data linked to your player ID or account is kept for as long as you use WordAcuity, until you delete it (below). After deletion, only de-identified records remain, kept for product analyitcs and record keeping.
Deleting your data
Open Menu → Account → Delete your data & account in the app. This erases the app's data from your device and permanently unlinks your server-side history from your identity: the player ID mapping is destroyed, so the remaining gameplay and transaction records can no longer be connected to you or your device. If you signed in, your sign-in account is deleted too — including the email and profile details Firebase Authentication held — and a Sign in with Apple authorization is revoked. Signing out (without deleting) simply removes your data from that device; it stays in your account. We retain those de-identified records for product analytics and record-keeping. If you have an active subscription, it is managed by Apple — cancel it in your device's Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions; deleting your data does not cancel it.
Children
WordAcuity is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. Playing requires no real-world identity; optional sign-in is the only place one is collected.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the date above. Material changes will be noted in the app.
